Happy New Year

I am enjoying the evening with my boys. I could go to church with the family or I could go uptown and watch the fireworks. But this year hanging out at home with a white russian and dinner is much more appealing. I guess I am getting old it was bound to happen. All I do know is after 3 nights of staying up until 5:00 or 5:30 with my son. It would be ideal to be asleep when 2007 rolls in. There is an old saying that whatever you are doing the last day of the year you will be doing all of the coming year. Hmm sleep? Well there are definitely worse things :)

Something kind of cool happened early this morning that I haven't told anyone. Mostly because it is surrounded by terrible circumstances, typical for me I guess. My son was up late and I was so very tired. It is an age old dance between us 15 years of it actually. But for some reason he decided to leave the house. He has never done that before. I must have dozed off it was about 3:30 and the 1st thing I noticed was I didn't hear him. He has this sound he makes it is like background music to me now and whenever I don't hear it I know something is wrong. I got up and went looking. The sliding glass doors were open and the lights in the garage were on. I called my son's name, thinking he was in the garage. Even the puppy jumped up (even she was sleeping). And a police officer appears and says "ma'am". I nearly jump out of my skin I am so startled. And he asks if I have a brother who is autistic. I go rushing out and explain my son is autistic and he tells me they have him. He wandered off and wound up at a house a couple of blocks away and began knocking on the door. They called the police (friendly neighbors) and the officer asked him his name.

Now my son knowing his phone number and address is a decade long fight. It is a battle I have every year at his IEP. What good are the other reading goals if he can't tell someone his phone number or address if he is lost? I can't even recall how many times I have made this point or asked this question. Well the circumstances were terrible but it turns out my son does know his address and telephone number and my name. It is how the police were able to bring him home. Of course after I got over the elation and relief of that I went to radio shack and bought buzzers for the doors that will go off if he opens them. We don't want any night time walks alone in the future.

I am not a big New Years resolution person I have broad goals for myself. Personal growth goals, parenting goals, financial goals, and I like to reflect at the end of the year. How am I doing as a person, a mother, a co-worker? Am I the person I want to be? Am I where I want to be for 36 almost 37? Things like that. I resolve to be kinder to others this year than I was last. I resolve to continue to ask for help when I need it instead of trying to do it all alone. I resolve to save more and spend less. I resolve to post more entries on the blog instead of just pics or memes :)

Happy New Year...

HNT-13

The tattoo quite small by most standards. It is on my stomach and covered most of the time. There aren't many people who are aware I have one.

Well until now, Happy HNT.

It was a very Merry Christmas...

A picture is worth a thousand words right? Well my 10 year old is over the moon with his new electronic drum kit. And my 15 year old is trying to figure out when he got too old for toys. I did buy him a few DVD and CDs. But autistic or not he was still a bit put out with the lack of "fun" gifts. Luckily his aunt and grandparents gave him toys r us gift cards. So I took him out yesterday to make amends.

Billy Jean and Christmas Eve...

The handsome face in the NC State t-shirt is my autistic son. He is lounging on my bed taking it over actually. He is resting after his 20 minute rendition of Billy Jean at the top of his lungs. He also has a little dance he made up that goes with the beat. He always stops before I can catch him doing it on camera though, sigh. I am not sure what his fascination is but he loves all things Michael Jackson and his favorite song is Billy Jean. I am the worst kind of mom because anything he shows the smallest interest in I indulge. I bought all the CDs and DVDs. For me it is impossible NOT to indulge when I discover something he likes.

He also has a thing for the Beattles "Yellow Submarine." So while I am sure most of you will be listening to Christmas songs today. I will be listening to Billy Jean and Yellow Submarine. "Merry Christmas to all and.... Billy Jean is not my lover she's just a girl who claims that I am the one, but the kid is not my son...

Tagged

I was tagged by Ed days ago, sorry.

1. Grab the book closest to you, don't choose
2. Open to page 123, go down to the fifth sentence.
3. Post the text of the next three sentences on the blog.
4. Name the book and the author.
5. Tag three people

I gather those sheets of paper and throw them at his face, wish they all were stones. He asks, "What's this?" I head to the bedroom and slam the door. I catch my breath and drop my purse in the leather chair.

I'll tag Emily (she has probably had time for a good book on holiday, Finished Last, and Serenity.

Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging
by Joe Butt
Profile: ENFJ
Revision: 3.0
Date of Revision: 23 Feb 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it's usually not meant as manipulation -- ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.

ENFJs are global learners. They see the big picture. The ENFJs focus is expansive. Some can juggle an amazing number of responsibilities or projects simultaneously. Many ENFJs have tremendous entrepreneurial ability.

ENFJs are, by definition, Js, with whom we associate organization and decisiveness. But they don't resemble the SJs or even the NTJs in organization of the environment nor occasional recalcitrance. ENFJs are organized in the arena of interpersonal affairs. Their offices may or may not be cluttered, but their conclusions (reached through feelings) about people and motives are drawn much more quickly and are more resilient than those of their NFP counterparts.

ENFJs know and appreciate people. Like most NFs, (and Feelers in general), they are apt to neglect themselves and their own needs for the needs of others. They have thinner psychological boundaries than most, and are at risk for being hurt or even abused by less sensitive people. ENFJs often take on more of the burdens of others than they can bear.

TRADEMARK: "The first shall be last"
This refers to the open-door policy of ENFJs. One ENFJ colleague always welcomes me into his office regardless of his own circumstances. If another person comes to the door, he allows them to interrupt our conversation with their need. While discussing that need, the phone rings and he stops to answer it. Others drop in with a 'quick question.' I finally get up, go to my office and use the call waiting feature on the telephone. When he hangs up, I have his undivided attention!

Functional Analysis:

Extraverted Feeling
Extraverted Feeling rules the ENFJ's psyche. In the sway of this rational function, these folks are predisposed to closure in matters pertaining to people, and especially on behalf of their beloved. As extraverts, their contacts are wide ranging. Face-to-face relationships are intense, personable and warm, though they may be so infrequently achieved that intimate friendships are rare.

Introverted iNtuition

Like their INFJ cousins, ENFJs are blessed through introverted intuition with clarity of perception in the inner, unconscious world. Dominant Feeling prefers to find the silver lining in even the most beggarly perceptions of those in their expanding circle of friends and, of course, in themselves. In less balanced individuals, such mitigation of the unseemly eventually undermines the ENFJ's integrity and frequently their good name. In healthier individuals, deft use of this awareness of the inner needs and desires of others enables this astute type to win friends, influence people, and avoid compromising entanglements.
The dynamic nature of their intuition moves ENFJs from one project to another with the assurance that the next one will be perfect, or much more nearly so than the last. ENFJs are continually looking for newer and better solutions to benefit their extensive family, staff, or organization.

Extraverted Sensing
Sensing is extraverted. ENFJs can manage details, particularly those necessary to implement the prevailing vision. These data have, however, a magical flexible quality. Something to be bought can be had for a song; the same something is invaluable when it's time to sell. (We are not certain, but we suspect that such is the influence of the primary function.) This wavering of sensory perception is made possible by the weaker and less mature status with which the tertiary is endowed.

Introverted Thinking
Introverted Thinking is least apparent and most enigmatic in this type. In fact, it often appears only when summoned by Feeling. At times only in jest, but in earnest if need be, Thinking entertains as logical only those conclusions which support Feeling's values. Other scenarios can be shown invalid or at best significantly inferior. Such "Thinking in the service of Feeling" has the appearance of logic, but somehow it never quite adds up.

Introverted Thinking is frequently the focus of the spiritual quest of ENFJs. David's lengthiest psalm, 119, pays it homage. "Law," "precept," "commandment," "statute:" these essences of inner thinking are the mysteries of Deity for which this great Feeler's soul searched.

Another one bites the dust...

I have to remove another blog from my blogroll, sigh. I guess I have been lucky so far. I haven't received the terrible comments and I don't feel like I am being stalked or anything. It has gotten to the point where every week a blogger I read is beginning to edit what they say or password protect some of their posts. Or they are password protecting the entire blog or just deleting it. Cycle Guy started out with password protection, then he stopped commenting on other blogs, then he just deleted his blog. It's a shame really to think that something that should be fun, an outlet, a chance to share with others becomes this weird thing where perfect strangers on the other side of the world drive people to stop blogging all together. It is just strange I have to admit...

I don't want to get a shot!

My son had his physical yesterday. He usually asks me if he will have to have a shot and I assure him that he is just going in for a check up. Well yesterday he didn't ask and to be honest I probably would have told him no if he had. My son doesn't react well to shots, not well at all.

The last time that the chicken pox vaccine was offered I refused it. I didn't see a reason for him to suffer through the shot since they are so traumatic for him. And that turned out to be the right decision. Well now it is not an option and there was also a Hepatitis A shot that was required. The look on my son's face when they informed him that he had to have a shot was priceless. And then he put his foot down folks. He told me that he didn't want a shot and that he would risk getting sick :) Needless to say the 2nd nurse had to be called and we had to hold my 10 year old down and believe me he told us the whole time how much he didn't want those shots.

He was not pleased with me yesterday but he doesn't hold a grudge. But I think he will be a bit more wary the next time he has a doctor's appt...
