I don't want to get a shot!
My son had his physical yesterday. He usually asks me if he will have to have a shot and I assure him that he is just going in for a check up. Well yesterday he didn't ask and to be honest I probably would have told him no if he had. My son doesn't react well to shots, not well at all.
The last time that the chicken pox vaccine was offered I refused it. I didn't see a reason for him to suffer through the shot since they are so traumatic for him. And that turned out to be the right decision. Well now it is not an option and there was also a Hepatitis A shot that was required. The look on my son's face when they informed him that he had to have a shot was priceless. And then he put his foot down folks. He told me that he didn't want a shot and that he would risk getting sick :) Needless to say the 2nd nurse had to be called and we had to hold my 10 year old down and believe me he told us the whole time how much he didn't want those shots.
He was not pleased with me yesterday but he doesn't hold a grudge. But I think he will be a bit more wary the next time he has a doctor's appt...

i decided to let my younger son get the chicken pox vaccine, and oddly enough, the very next week, his older brother got... chicken pox. Coincidence? hmm. i was going to just let nature take its course, but as they got older and older i thought, well, what if they don't get it at all? i don't want them getting it as grownups. Anyway, we seem to be covered now, both from nature and pharmaceutical science...
He got the vaccine at school, so i don't think there was much drama. He's not that kind of kid anyway, very laid back. his older brother now, that would have been a show...
Well that's the thing they didn't offer the shot when my oldest was young. And neither me or hubby have ever had chicken pox.
He was NOT a happy camper that's for sure.
My daughter has always become a drama queen around shots as well. But last year when getting her flu shot, she made such a scene, that the pediatrician took her ahead of other kids, and told her quite sternly that she was being taken next to stop her from scaring other children.
She became quite upset and embarassed that the doctor spoke to her so sternly (she is sensetive like that and does not like to disappoint people).
This year... not a peep was heard from her.
Ah, we've avoided the shot trauma for some time now, but I know next year, we're probably on a list. I've tried to appease the boys' qualms by giving them war stories like "Mommy has had shots in her face before! And she didn't even cry!" but they don't seem to buy it.
I have had the tendency to cry along with them when they'v gotten shots, but it's been awhile since we've needed to see a doctor. Luckily, we're short-lived "cryers".
hey, who can blame him. Shots are no fun at all.
The really bad part is I had to help hold him down and he was NOT pleased with me. But on Saturday we saw my mom and she just had to tell him how I used to behave at the doctor's office. And let me tell you I redefined "drama queen" when it came to getting a shot. So he felt much better after he learned his mom used to be a big baby too...
Don't feel bad, I was the same way with shots. Was it just a sit down situation in a chair or was in the full on having to hold him on the examining table event?
