Christmas Meme...

Stolen from finishedlast...
1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?Egg Nog, but I like it best if rum or butterscotch snapps are added.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? I wrap the clothes, I place the toys under the tree, and I add the smaller ones to the stockings.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? white lights and red lights.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope, never done that.
5. When do you put your decorations up? Usually the 1st weekend in December.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Excluding dessert? My mom's candied yams probably.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child: The year my mom bought my 10 speed. I didn't think she was going to be able to, and then I found the box 3 days before Christmas (she was pissed) but I couldn't find the bike.
8.How and When did you learn the truth about Santa? My mom is very religious so I never believed in Santa. From an early age I understood "the reason for the season."
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yes my family exchanges gifts on Christmas Eve and then my boys spend Christmas Day with my hubby's family.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? white and red lights, red bows, and white angels that my autistic son and his class make and sell every year for the local autistic chapter.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I like it but we don't get snow very often and I don't think we have ever had snow at christmas time.
12. Can you ice skate? I am terrible, and of course my autistic son is marvelous at it. We joke that he can do most anything. He won the gold medal in ice skating last year at the special olympics.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? When I was 5 years old my favorite aunt bought me an international doll. I will never forget this doll because it was hand made and you could change the nationality. I carried that thing around with me for 3 years and left it on the plane when we moved to NC.
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? My boys watching them open their gifts, spending time with them.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Sweet Potato Pie.
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? It used to be the Christmas Eve service at my mom's church. I just felt connected to my family and my community. But I haven't been able to go in several years. I guess now it's Christmas Eve with my family at my house. It feels good to be able to host a family gathering, to have my grandmother and all my family around me.
17. What tops your tree?A home made angel.
18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? The right answer is giving and when it comes to my kids of course I do. But I am still a big kid at heart and I love, love, love ripping wrapping paper and opening gifts.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Little Drummer Boy
20. What is your favorite Christmas story?A Charlie Brown Christmas but A Christmas Story is a close 2nd.

That is very cool about your son's ice skating. We have the same taste in Christmas movies but I could have put a list of about 10 down in that catagory.

An autistic chapter? I wonder if we have one locally? [another thing for the 'to do list.] We're hoping that this year we'll have made considerable progress on the present opening fiasco. [Junior can't touch paper so I wrap all of his in tea towels - it's recyclable!]Best wishes

FL-yeah I love the holiday movies, I am such a cornball. Thanks I was really proud of him. I think it is so cool that they allow the autistic students to participate.

mcewen-there are local chapters with the autistic society of NC. My son is fine with the paper and most of the celebrating the big thing for him is having people over. I have a certain number before things get a little "stressed" for lack of a better word.

Serenity-I swear it's uncanny the similarities. Now I am curious I never heard of "A Child's Christmas in Wales"

I agree with #18. I love finding the right presents for someone, but I take a bit more glee than I probably should in having something to open, also. I'm a bit disappointed that this year, it seems there will be nothing for the "grown ups" to open, not even from my parents. Makes it a bit hard to look forward to the day (which sounds a bit selfish of me and that's not the way I want!).

It's a Welsh-Canadian co-production with Denholm Elliott. From the late 80's or very early 90's. Utterly true to Dylan Thomas's poem, it's so good, esp. for boys. Sometimes it's on CBC, but i doubt you'd ever see it south of the border, lol...
